The question mark is known by everyone, but who has actually invented question mark?
The Middle Ages scholars, who often were monks, favored marking a question in writing with a q, which stood for the first letter of the Latin word quaestio, meaning questions. This letter “q” evolved over time and finally became (?) which is known as question mark.
For a while, only the curved part of “q” was written on the page so that the question mark looked something like this: (. ~).
Today’s questionmark was, however, favored throughout the 16th century. There has also been a questionmark used for rhetorical questions where no answer was expected. But this questionmark, however, died after the end of the 16th century.
