Where does the question mark originate from?

The question mark is known by everyone, but who has actually invented question mark?

who invented questionmark

The Middle Ages scholars, who often were monks, favored marking a question in writing with a q, which stood for the first letter of the Latin word quaestio, meaning questions. This letter “q” evolved over time and finally became (?) which is known as question mark.

For a while, only the curved part of “q” was written on the page so that the question mark looked something like this: (. ~).

Today’s questionmark was, however, favored throughout the 16th century. There has also been a questionmark used for rhetorical questions where no answer was expected.  But this questionmark, however, died hasn’t been used after the end of the 16th century.
